When I look at some of the leaders of the Bible like Moses, I have to pause. I am taken aback at the obedience, faithfulness and suffering people like him were able to endure for the cause of God and the freedom of God’s people. Not a freedom that pertains to the flesh, but a spiritual freedom from the bondages of sin and disobedience. Moses was by no means perfect, but he was indeed a mighty leader and prophet of the Lord God Almighty!
And then I think about the condition of the church today. We complain about every little thing as we constantly live in the flesh and feed the flesh with our selfish, insatiable appetite for sin. If the people of today had to lead Israel out of slavery, they never would have made it even a mile out of Egypt! Israel would have become extinct faster than the blink of an eye!
God’s people are STILL on the journey to the Promised Land, but will we repent during this powerful Exodus from the bondage of the flesh? Will any of us be willing to lay down our lives for the sake of Jesus Christ?
On the journey to the promised land, the people of God never fully took possession of the land flowing with milk and honey God promised them because they did not obey God’s instructions to the letter. The closest they came was during the reign of King Solomon.
As I said above, God’s people are still on the journey to take possession of the land promised by God to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob through Jesus Christ. We, the remnant at the end, must rise above sin and disobedience by falling down on our faces in complete humility, humbly surrendering the ways of the flesh before God and walking in FULL OBEDIENCE to His commands!
Will we be the generation? Or will we make the same fatal mistake Israel made when they came to the Wilderness of sin and wandered around Mount Sinai for forty years, (which in Hebrew means, “thorny”, which represent apostasy and false teachers in the Bible)? If you recall, God ended up giving it to the NEXT GENERATION because of their sin and disobedience!
For the sons of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, until all the nation, that is, the men of war who came out of Egypt, perished because they did not listen to the voice of the LORD, to whom the LORD had sworn that He would not let them see the land which the LORD had sworn to their fathers to give us, a land flowing with milk and honey. -Joshua 5:6 NASBS
And, they constantly murmured and complained instead of giving God thanks –
Then they set out from Elim, and all the congregation of the sons of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departure from the land of Egypt. [2] The whole congregation of the sons of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness. [3] The sons of Israel said to them, “Would that we had died by the LORD’S hand in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat, when we ate bread to the full; for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.” [4] Then the LORD said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion every day, that I may test them, whether or not they will walk in My instruction. [5] On the sixth day, when they prepare what they bring in, it will be twice as much as they gather daily.” [6] So Moses and Aaron said to all the sons of Israel, “At evening you will know that the LORD has brought you out of the land of Egypt; [7] and in the morning you will see the glory of the LORD, for He hears your grumblings against the LORD; and what are we, that you grumble against us?” -Exodus 16:1-7
Israel refused to be obedient to God and refused to fully trust Him. Instead of conquering their fleshly ways, they surrendered to their fleshly ways. Will we fully surrender to God or will we keep wandering in our desert of sin, circling around the mountain of thorns?
